Disinfecting MFP’s, Copiers, or Shared Printers

We all share a MFP, be it copying documents, scanning documents, or faxing documents. Now more than ever it’s important to recognize that these shared devices should be cleaned on a regular basis.

We are often asked what is safe to use when cleaning a copier.

There is a need to clean and sanitize devices regularly more than ever as a result of COVID.  You can use disinfectant wipes, but must do so carefully. You can use wipes on the flat plastic exterior pieces, buttons, and  digital touchscreens of your MFP. Disinfecting wipes should be damp, but avoid wipes that are dripping. Liquids sprayed or dripped into office equipment can cause damage to the machine.

Given our current circumstances, it’s not a bad idea to keep a container of disinfecting wipes near any shared office equipment to allow staff to sanitize the equipment before and after use, but they should be reminded wipes can only be damp and not dripping and only used on the exterior surfaces of the equipment.
